Construction aggregate, or aggregate, is the coarse particulate material served in construction, with various types including sand, gravel, break stone , slag, geosynthetics aggregates and recycled concrete. Aggregates are the most exploited materials in the world. Aggregate is an element of composite materials like concrete and asphalt concrete. The overall composite material will be reinforced after using construction aggregate. Compared to most soils, aggregate’s relatively high hydraulic conductivity value makes it generally suitable in drainage applications like foundation and French drains, road side edge drains, retaining wall drains, and septic drain fields. Aggregate is also a base material serving under foundations, roads, and railroads. Due to the predictable, consistent characteristics (e.g. helping prevent differential settling under the road or building), Aggregates can be served as a stable foundation or road and rail base. It can also combin with relatively more expensive cement or asphalt to form concrete as a low-cost extender.
